I love this, Pao! I call "doing things the hard way", a hobby. There's something satisfying about over-building, no matter what it is. It keeps us focused and strengthens our imagination; it makes having an opinion more meaningful.
Susan said she was doing her last elected office campaign last year running for Mayor. Unfortunately it didn't turn out the way we'd like but I'm decommissioning our infrastructure I set up back in 2011 for her first run. By now honda4fw.com should be down and yes it was costing me way too much per year when it was every 4 years but the interim Mayor campaigns were offset so we had a few back to back every two years. The tear-down is to help deter any further aspirations. It is clear to me, elected officials that think they are still relevant into advanced ages are living in the past. Get excited, have a goal, work hard, get done what you can, turn it over, no matter how difficult that is, to the next gen and get out.
Interesting read. I don’t have the tech skills/knowledge to understand most of it … these days I’m afraid of “anything online” such as my LinkedIn profile (which got hacked once and after I got it back all the “resume content” (ie experience ) was lost forever … LinkedIn said it did not maintain a backup copy which I thought was ridiculous .. luckily my LinkedIn email communication was intact (my sister recently lost her business instagram account and Meta essentially said “sorry but we can’t help you” … )
I want my “own cloud” AND “non cloud” ie kinda like a personal “safe” to store backups of my online data !
Steve, very cool. you might plan a project to build a monitoring / mgmt app to probe each app, check for patches for docker, etc.
