Lots of topics! Each a discussion in itself that could go deep.
Burger Plus (used to be Flame Burgers), Burger Express, Katsu Burger (Wabi Wasabi is great), Dick’s, Five Guys, Red Robin, Billy McHale’s, Black Bear, JP’s Tavern, Brickyard Pub, Jimmy Mac’s Roadhouse, Pick-Quick in Fife, Frisco Freeze in Tacoma just to name a few! Maybe we ought to do a burger event in Federal Way! Bucks off coupons? Does Portland have a “best of” related to the burger week?
I tried to get Weyerhaeuser OSB when we built our house but I would’ve had to buy whole units to get the employee discount and pick it up from the distribution center. My contractor got better deals bundling various materials with his annual volume discounts.
Neat idea on the start of life fund. I was glad my kids got going on their life when they got married. I could save towards my pay off the kids life fund. I went ballet shoe shopping with my daughter, once. On sale and these expensive ballet ‘slipper’ lasting about 3-4 weeks… smh your mother can do that shopping… boys are cheaper until they get their driver’s license. Car insurance catches them up in a heartbeat.
btw, Dad’s get smarter as time goes on. Kids will tell you that as they progress through life’s challenges. Gee dad you really knew what you were saying… wished I had payed attention back then…
A great attitude and Best of luck on the health issues. I had insurance approval on jaw surgery for Susan (TMJ). And after the fact and unfortunately the outcome didn’t work out as planned, insurance was denied. 5 big figures of unexpected medical bills was, a surprise. Fought it, appealed it until they said final, don’t come back, paid it but not happy back in the 90’s.
Being intimately involved in local politics, at least hearing the raw backstories, it makes me pause when I hear the media and how they can affect reasonable people’s opinions. Most voters are not aware nor informed about the reality and truth behind the issues. Frustrating at best. And if it’s that way at the local level, imagine the vast differences at the federal or global level. The perspective the media presents is incentivized by many factors including; funding, audience, ego, sustainability and somewhat, truth. “…I want the truth! YOU CAN’T HANDLE THE TRUTH!” from some movie…
I like the video blog, albeit I might play with playback speed? Your facial expressions tell the story! Especially as you talked about your Apple, less than excited upgrades. When will it become all subscription? All cloud? Reliable connectivity everywhere? Updates happen without the need for new hardware!? Just an access device?
A while back I heard a very interesting webcast - JP Morgan had on a New York physician who specialized in longevity medicine and his patients were among the elite of Gotham. Once of his points was the stress hormone response measured by things like cortisol when you were awoken by an alarm. The doc believed you should set an alarm to tell you to go to bed and awaken naturally to minimize the stressor on the body. While not practical advice for everyone, I did find it quite interesting…
I basically don’t use an alarm anymore in retirement. The only time I use an alarm is as a backup to catch early morning flights! The funny thing is that I typically have so many jitters when setting an alarm that I rarely find myself needing it, waking up before the alarm goes off anyway.
