A while back I heard a very interesting webcast - JP Morgan had on a New York physician who specialized in longevity medicine and his patients were among the elite of Gotham. Once of his points was the stress hormone response measured by things like cortisol when you were awoken by an alarm. I basically don’t use an alarm anymore in retirement. The only time I use an alarm is as a backup to catch early morning flights! The funny thing is that I typically have so many jitters when setting an alarm that I rarely find myself needing it, waking up before the alarm goes off anyway.
